So you will have the Queen use a magic spell on another piece or the Rook turning into a rock monster smashing another one as they claim the spot. The chess pieces actually battle it out in amusing and fun little sequences that occur every time you or the other player takes a piece. Its a standard chess game with a fun twist. It's chess like you have never seen before. The walking-sounds of the different pieces over the board are unique for every piece and the sounds during the fights are great, including clattering of steel and screams from the characters! The sound is also great with very nice sampled sounds. Especially the fights are very nicely animated and they are very humorous! It makes you want to see all combinations of chess pieces fighting it out. The graphics in Battle Chess are pretty slick and great to look at. During play you can always take back a move, if you aren’t satisfied with the result or if you are stuck and you don’t know what to do, you can always ask the computer to suggest a move. You can save your game whenever you want, so you can play on later, if you have other obligations stopping you from finishing right away. You start with the basic set-up of the game, but you can also set up the pieces on the board anyway you like, so you can put yourself in real match-situations in which Carpov and Casparov and the like were once, if you like that. You can choose between black or white (or actually blue and red in this game!) and then it’s time to play! Battle Chess can be played against the computer there are a whopping 10 difficulty levels to play against, so the rookie as well as the chess-champion can eat their heart out, but it’s also possible to play against a friend in two player mode or via modem.
To play Battle Chess you have still got to know the rules of the game of coarse. So the chess-computer became their new chess-friend. Battle Chess is for a broader audience, because it adds a bit more action into this brain-game by letting the pieces on the board fight it out for real, instead of just sliding of the board.Ĭhess made its way to the home computer long ago, and the main reason for this was that people didn’t always find a person to play chess against.
